EUROSPEC CST1015

We stock this 50mm diameter x 8mm thick indicator with coin release and thumb turn for use with a bathroom lockcase or mortice deadbolt on bathroom doors.  It provides easy locking of the door whilst allowing emergency access with the coin release on the outside of the door in accordance with modern safety standards.  Fixed with screws or bolt thru’ fixings, the face plate is clipped over the fixing rose to give a smart finish to any door.  This unit comes with two rose covers – one has a little display for the red/green indicator and the other has no display, which you might prefer if it’s just to use in your own home.  The EUROSPEC CST1015 can even be used with a sliding bathroom lock – as long as it has the 5mm follower (spindle aperture).

I am looking for a door closer for our fire door that goes from utility room to the integral garage, currently it operates with a spring loaded device (not adjustable) that slams the door shut with a big bang. Can you recommend a door closer which would close the door without slamming it shut?

An overhead hydraulic door closer would be a good solution for your slamming problem.  For a large fire door (and width is the most important dimension to consider) you might go for a medium to heavy duty door closer like the GEZE TS4000 or the TS2000NV.  For a narrower door; the domestic closers Eurospec F2003 or T2024 would be more economical.  You can read about the special features of each of these door closers by clicking through the links.  As you mention it’s in your house, the GEZE door closers I mentioned have the option of upgrading to a matching polished cover & arm (can be brass or stainless steel) which you might want to consider.

Can you recommend a door closer that would shut a residential property door as quietly and controlled as possible?

We recommend the Geze TS1500 as a good domestic door closer, it has variable closing force in two sizes, adjustable closing speed and adjustable hydraulic latching action and so gives plenty of controllability. If you are price conscious, the Eurospec F2003 door closer at £12.75 + VAT is also a good closer, less attractive to look at, but has a good degree of adjustability.

Can a door closer arm be fitted to a curved architrave?

When an architrave has moulding or curved features where the foot of the door closer arm is supposed to go, one usually chisels out a flat surface to screw the shoe on to.
