Sliding-folding gear may be used without a bottom guide, in some cases..

If considering a Coburn Foldaside 100 top hanging sliding folding gear in a situation where a bottom guide rail cannot be used, as the underlying floor is concrete and the 15mm groove in to which to set the bottom guide could not be provided. The manufacturer’s guidelines are that “The floor guide and channel must be used on doors over 15kg or 450mm wide.”  The reason is that the floor guide takes most of the lateral load off the hinges, and hinges supplied with the kits are only lightweight.  It might be an idea to look at the more heavy duty Saheco SF-A84D sliding-folding system, because we supply that with Royde & Tucker H102 or H104 Hi Load hinges.  Alternatively Hi-load hinges can be purchased separately, which would mean you would almost certainly be successful without the bottom guide.

Using Foldaside 100 track where all 4 doors fold to 1 side, what keeps the doors flat in the closed position, do they “snap” closed with springs on the hangers in the track or do they have to be bolted to the floor?

The Foldaside 100 kits are supplied with flush bolts to keep the doors in place when open flat.  The 4 door kit comes with 2 flush bolts which would be positioned at the top of the doors, possibly the end of leaf 1 & 3 (or 2 & 4) and either bolted into the track, or aside the track depending on your door thickness etc.

Q: Can the ‘Foldaside 100’ track length could be extended to 2440mm?

A:  Looking at the Foldaside 100 – 4 door 2400mm kit, the top and bottom tracks can be alternatively purchased by the metre (i.e. in 3m sections, which you could cut down).  But if your opening is 2.44m, then it may be possible to get away with 2.4m tracks by positioning the 4cm “gap” at the side where the doors are attached to the wall.  This should not affect the operation of the doors.

I need a three panel folding/sliding door, or four panel if three is not possible. The opening is 1.0 mtr wide x 1.85 mtr high. Have you runners that will do this? I can make the doors myself.

As long as your individual door leaves will weigh no more than 7kg each, then I would recommend the Henderson Bi Fold B15 – 4 door kit, which you can cut down to fit the opening.  You can read about it and see the price at the link.  If your doors will be heavier, then you’ll need to look at the Foldaside 100 (2 or 4 door kits only).

I am looking for a sliding folding concertina door sytem to fold 8 x narrow doors , 4 each way. Doors are 2200 mm x 235 mm x 35 mm in size and weigh approx. 20 kg each. I will need a system which has both top and bottom tracks – 2100 mm in length.

The suitable gear for the sliding folding arrangement you describe for your doors would be the Coburn Foldaside 100, (see components listed on our web page at the link shown) a set to do all 8 doors on a 2.1m top & bottom track will have to be bought in component form, with two 4 door kits on one track set.

Would the Foldaside 100 system be OK for my doors: I want to have two doors sliding/ folding to one side, each door weighs approx 23 kg and is 600 mm wide?

Yes, the Foldaside 100 would be fine.  Because your doors are at the maximum width you definitely need to use the floor guide (which is supplied in the 2 door kit).
