Gridlock tubular latch
Tubular latches are easy to fit with a standard tool kit, no complex morticing is required.  They are perfect for using on contemporary designs of internal household doors where you are using lever handles on round roses where you can bolt right through the door and the latch to give a really firm fixing.  They are also suitable for use with door handles on a backplate, which are surface mounted through the holes in the backplate.  The Gridlock tubular latch come in two backset sizes, 44mm & 57mm.  It has been tested to EN12209:2003 and can be used on fire doors.  The 8mm follower is flanked by bolt thru’ fixing holes allowing the best fixing for all modern lever handles.

Q: Choosing ironmongery for four final fire exit doors and frames which will experience heavy traffic, and need to be secure (would prefer not to have a panic bar), can you recommend a handle arrangement, perhaps with a thumblock on the inside, that would be suitable for these circumstances?

A: For the arrangement you describe we would suggest using escape sashlocks – these have euro cylinder thumb turn locks (i.e. you can have any kind of high security, master keyed, anti pick, anti bump etc euro profile cylinder) but use a split spindle so from the inside the handle will ALWAYS over-ride the lock and open.  The sets we supply include standard differ cylinders, which you can see on the website clicking the bold link, talk to us about higher security cylinders or masterkeying.

You can order the “S103 bathroom set, Duel” (which includes the door handles, bathroom indicator set & bathroom lock case), just select 44mm (or 57mm) for the backset dimension – the usual for domestic doors is 44mm, and as they’re new doors you have no pre-cut holes to measure.
