What is an OAD?

February 14, 2014 by · Comments Off on What is an OAD?

EXIDOR 302ec outside access device

An OAD is an Outside Access Device; this is fitted on the outside of a final exit door which has been fitted with Panic or Emergency Exit Hardware on the inside. The OAD allows access from the outside by authorised persons. The OAD can also be locked to allow non-key holders to gain entry.  A great example of one of these is the EXIDOR 302EC (pictured) which can be integrated into your existing masterkeyed suite, if required.

Briton have a comprehensive and versatile range of exit hardware that combines the functional needs of safety and security with aesthetic lines.  Briton exit hardware is the ideal choice for all panic and emergency applications including hospitals, schools, hotels, transport hubs, retail and commercial offices. The Briton 1438 (pictured) is a surface mounted rim latch for single and double door fire exit applications. Simply depressing the pad provides safe and speedy exit in the event of an emergency, whilst maintaining security against intrusion. An adaptor for using a rim cylinder for outside access is supplied as standard. We hold good stock levels of Briton Exit Hardware available for immediate dispatch.

Our local club has an external opening emergency exit door which is fitted with an Exidor panic bar on the inside. Externally there is no way of opening the door and due to the door opening to an external smoking area we would like to fit some sort of hardware whereby the external handle can be disabled for security, but enabled while the property is occupied. This needs to be locked at night. What can we use?

We would suggest a door closer, such as the Geze TS2000, used in combination with an outside access device, such as the Exidor 322EC lockable door handle which will be freely usable during club opening hours, then locked at night.

Is there a digital lock for panic hardware with a knob rather than a lever?

February 1, 2011 by · Comments Off on Is there a digital lock for panic hardware with a knob rather than a lever?

No, the Exidor CL1 and CL2 outside access devices have a handle rather than a knob.  The Disability Discrimination Act calls for the use of handles over knobs, as they are easier to use.

Can the cylinder in an OAD be interchanged?

November 23, 2010 by · Comments Off on Can the cylinder in an OAD be interchanged?

The Exidor range includes Outside Access Devices (OAD’s) with interchangeable and non-interchangeable cylinders. All the Exidor OAD units, except for the 298 and 409 units, have interchangeable cylinders. The cylinders in the 302 OAD have to be drilled and tapped from the back, but the 322, 400, 500 and 700 series OAD uses the conventional fixing position.

Does the Exidor 305 accept a single euro cylinder?

October 29, 2010 by · Comments Off on Does the Exidor 305 accept a single euro cylinder?

Q: (from Julian) Does the Exidor 305 come with an external access device that accepts a single euro cylinder?  And can the euro cylinder be replaced?
A: (from Doorstuff) The Exidor 305 mortice operator does come with a single euro cylinder, which you can replace with an other, for example a masterkeyed cylinder.  The cylinder operates a mortice night latch (included) which is morticed inside the door, rather than having an external outside access device.  We also supply the euro escutcheon in satin stainless steel.  If you especially wanted one with a separate outside access device, you could go for the Exidor 296 push bar on the inside together with the Exidor 302EC which also works with a standard single euro cylinder.

A fire escape door with a micro switch for an alarm?

July 14, 2010 by · Comments Off on A fire escape door with a micro switch for an alarm?

Q: (from Simon) I am the caretaker of a school.  There is a door which must be a fire escape door in a wing of the school which is seldom used.  If it is opened in any non-fire related event, then staff in the reception office need to be alerted by alarm so it can be checked and relocked as soon as possible.  Sometimes members of the Art Department staff need to enter through this door too.  Can it be done?
A: (from Doorstuff) Yes, using a Exidor 296 push bar with Micro switch to link into an Access Control System or Remote Monitoring System for the PUSH side of the door, and an Exidor 322 EC outside access device with keys and a euro cylinder for the other side.
