Exidor panic hardware for double uPVC fire escape doors

June 6, 2014 by · Comments Off on Exidor panic hardware for double uPVC fire escape doors

It is drummed into us how secure uPVC doors are (in addition to their other merits) but unfortunately, where these doors are required to be fire escapes in for example schools, care homes or HMOs, this is a fallacy.  Unless the door was supplied with an integral panic hardware system by the uPVC door supplier, the super secure internal locking mechanism needs to be disabled when surface mounted panic hardware is fitted.  The EXIDOR 5 point locking 502-23 with horizontal pullman catches would give you the best security that can be achieved with Exidor panic hardware for double uPVC fire escape doors while meeting BS EN1125 on panic exit devices.

Is an Exidor OAD available with a Lever Handle?

The 200/300 series now offers the 322 lever OAD. The 500 and 700 series both have lever handle OAD’s available, which can be used with single point latches, 2, and 3 point locking Bolts and Pullman Catches.

What are pullman catches?

Q (from Rachel) We are looking for a Panic bar to suit a uPVC french door.  We don’t need a handle on the outside.  The Exidor 502A-B looks like it will do the job.  What do the optional extras mean (Horizontal pullman catches & Vertical pullman catches)?
A: (from Doorstuff) The pullman catches offer better security, and for a uPVC door, you’d probably go for the vertical ones. If you don’t, the unit is supplied with a top trip to suit a uPVC door, so it will still work OK.  More important things to consider though – Is there any internal locking system already in the door, how does the door currently operate, is it a single or double door?  Any current locking & handles will need to be disengaged so the only lock on the door will be the Exidor 502A-B to meet fire regulations.
